We are pleased to introduce the PolioPlus Society.
This Society is for Rotarians (and non-Rotarians, too!) who are dedicated to seeing that polio is successfully eradicated from our planet.  In order to belong, you commit to donating $100 or more per year and pledging to do so until polio is completely eradicated. For your pledge, you will receive a PolioPlus Society pin, a wrist band, and a certificate. If you can act fast, we have a special offer for the rest of this month (November 2020) - your donation will be matched 2-1 with recognition points toward your next level Paul Harris Fellowship by dedicated Rotarians in Zone 26/27 (our Zone). You can download the flyer explaining the program and a commitment letter to make your pledge.
We are very excited about this program! These may not seem like large victories, but 1) it is significant that there has not been a case of wild poliovirus (WPV) in Afghanistan for the last three weeks, 2) zero cases in Pakistan for two weeks, and 3) the World Health Organization approved the emergency use of the novel oral polio vaccine Type 2. This will significantly help control circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus Type 2. One major victory is that the entire continent of Africa is certified WPV free now that Nigeria is polio free! All of this has been accomplished due to the combined efforts of Rotarians and partners - that's us!
We can't express how important it is to keep funding the polio eradication program. We know it has been a long battle, but we need to finish the job.  In 1985 we promised the children of the world that we would eradicate this devastating disease of Polio from the face of the earth. Rotarians are people of integrity and we keep our promises. So please join the Polio Plus society and donate what you can so we will never again see people affected by this disease.
