It is with great sadness that the District announces the passing of Sidney LeRoy Wade, a member of the Rotary Club of Spokane Valley Sunrise, who passed away February 28, 2021 in Spokane Valley. Sid was born on December 8, 1944 in Newton, Iowa.
Sid lived a full life. He was a good man with a huge heart. He believed in Rotary and the mission of serving others. Sid and Sandy served Rotary together for many years.
He was the oldest of four boys. The Wade family is very large and even when Sid was young he was a part of a Scottish Clan. Sid always said he didn’t realize he was short until he joined the Navy.
Sid served eight years in the Navy and served three tours in Vietnam on board the USS Kitty Hawk.
Sid joined American Sign and Indicator in 1971 in the Midwest. He was transferred to Spokane in 1972. He was one of a very few at the time that had knowledge of computers. He went to work for ISC in 1979. He spent his career as a software engineer in data communications and user interfaces dealing mostly with financial institutions. Sid worked extensively overseas in England, Mexico, Singapore, Australia, Bahrain. He made lifelong friends wherever he was sent.
Sid met his future wife Sandy at American Sign. They were friends and workmates for some 30+ years before marrying in January 2006. Sid was Sandy’s best friend and the District’s First Dude when Sandy served as Governor in 2010-2011.
Sid is survived by Sandy; his 10 children and their families, two brothers and their families, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A grand Scottish wake will be held for Sid on Saturday, June 26, from 3 pm to the wee hours, should any of our Rotary friends like to come and share great memories.
